Location
Kirkliston Stud is based at 'Piney Ridge', a 59-hectare (147-acre) property on two titles on Piney Ridge Road, Nairne (UBD
page 150 grid A11). It is accessible (approximately 35 minutes) from Adelaide CBD via the freeway (Mt Barker exit, via Littlehampton and Nairne, or Hahndorf exit, via Verdun and Balhannah).
It is currently disposed as 11 large paddocks, connected by raceways, plus 10 day paddocks. There are approximately 14 kilometres of post and rail fencing. It has a superb 17-stall stable complex, with a drive-through breezeway, wash-bay, tack-room, laundry facilities, and a staff shower. There are three day-yards, two foaling paddocks (one flood-lit), a round-yard, and a portable round-yard. Shedding includes an implements shed and a hay shed. We are currently installing an 8-horse walking machine.
There is a dam with a capacity of 20 million litres. All paddocks are serviced by a sweet water bore. The property is also supplied by rainwater and mains water.
The property also includes a 13-room homestead with a quarter-Olympic size swimming pool, a three-bedroom manager's cottage, a two-room self-contained guest cottage, and a flood-lit tennis court.
Kirkliston Nairne is 8 kilometres from Oakbank racecourse, which hosts the largest picnic race carnival in the southern hemisphere.
The township of Nairne (population 2,500), 4 kilometres from the property, provides a good range of amenities and services, including supermarket, service station, hardware, bakery, butcher, fruit & vegetable shop, cafes, take-away food shops, pubs, golf course, historic buildings, and other tourist attractions.
